The River’s Source

Merced River Fall Morning

Loving hands of our Creator
Place us on the river of life;
Floating for a while
On smooth, calm currents
Often we are confronted with strife,

Swimming with the current
All is good and well
Though resistance may arise
We must continue on;
In our own way
To live and tell,

Churning waters dark and deep
We hesitate;
Buoyancy unable to keep
Rocks and boulders
Obstruct our way
Yet we hold on
Each and every day,

Often those loving hands
Guide us along
Push from behind
Forgiving our wrongs;
Yet never leave us unattended
Throughout our lives
We are constantly mended,

Loving hands that have
Placed us here;
Forever comforting
Forever near.
